at night however it an entirely different place. there are huge bats that take over the backyard in the dark. They are enormous as well, probably about 2-3 feet in length when they're flying over our heads. And they cry out these little whines, rather child-like crys.

I'm surprised you can talk about it so matter a factly and not faint.
Spooky Sam, but bats are not at all scary, I like bats because they eat all the little creatures I would rather not like to think about, and I know they never get in your hair contrary to the old saying,because they are so good with their little radar, they would never hit anything at all.
I am not sure about their little crying sounds, I used to hear them in Hatley, but that was a VERY little squeeking sound.
